How I Remember Works

A transparent look at the smart memory system: how facts are extracted, stored, and retrieved — and how you stay in control of everything the AI knows about you.

Product / Trust

I Remember is built around a single premise: every important thing you tell it should be stored, structured, and available forever — unless you decide to delete it. Unlike most AI apps that reset context between sessions, I Remember builds a living knowledge base from your journal entries, voice notes, and conversations. This guide explains exactly how that works, from extraction to recall to the privacy architecture that keeps you in control.

In this guide

How I Remember Actually Remembers

The full memory system explained: explicit facts, implicit extraction, inferred patterns, and the workflow from entry to remembered fact.

How We Handle Your Private Data

Straight answers about encryption, data usage, and your control over every fact the system holds. No jargon, no evasion.

Why We Have No Streaks

The philosophy behind the product: journaling should serve your growth, not your guilt. Why we rejected streaks and gamification.

Building AI That Helps You Grow

The anti-dependency stance: I Remember is designed to make itself less necessary over time, not more. Growth over engagement.

Frequently asked questions

How does I Remember extract facts from my journal?

When you write an entry, an automated extraction pipeline identifies people mentioned, emotions expressed, biographical facts, upcoming dates, and commitments. Every extracted fact is shown to you as a receipt immediately — you can correct, pin, or delete anything. The system distinguishes between facts you explicitly tell it, facts it extracts from your writing, and patterns it infers across multiple entries.

Is my data used to train AI models?

No. I Remember never uses your journal entries to train AI models. Your data is not fed into a training pipeline, sold to third parties, or used to improve models for other users. This is a hard policy, not a preference.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export all your data — journal entries, extracted facts, person profiles — in a standard format at any time. You can also delete your entire account, which permanently removes all data from our servers.

What makes I Remember different from other journaling apps?

Most journaling apps store what you write. I Remember understands it — extracting patterns, building person profiles, and letting you query your history in plain language. The unique differentiator is relationship memory: it automatically tracks the people in your life, not just your own emotions.
